Was Ezekiel Elliott Worth The 6th Pick in Fantasy Football Drafts?

Ezekiel Elliott was an absolute force in 2016. The rookie running back proved the Dallas Cowboys did not make a mistake in drafting him with the 4th pick in the 2016 draft. Was Ezekiel Elliott worth the 6th pick in Fantasy Drafts? Absolutely. Why was this so and will he have another strong performance in 2017? Elliot’s strong numbers and strong play are an indication of what the Cowboys hope is continued success.

Draft Position

Elliott was typically drafted 6th in fantasy drafts according to Fantasy Pros ADP data. The fantasy football GM’s who selected him at that position were handsomely rewarded. The Ohio State graduate bucked the trend of rookie RB’s not doing well in their first year in the NFL. Elliott came into the league with tons of hype and lived up to all of it.

2016 Stats

Zeke was the 2nd best Non-QB in terms of fantasy points. The only non-QB who had more points than Zeke was David Johnson. Ezekiel Elliott should have really been the 2nd pick of the draft, that is where he finished in terms of value. The 2016 campaign saw Zeke rush for 1631 which made him the NFL’s rushing yard leader. Elliott was also 2nd in all-purpose yardage with 1994 yards, he also finished 3rd in all-purpose TD’s with 16. The duo of Elliott and young QB Dak Prescott took the NFL by storm this season. Anyone who predicted that Elliott would have a phenomenal 2016 campaign was correct. Elliott paid off for every single fantasy GM who drafted him. Elliott was a fantasy football MVP for many teams.

2017 Fantasy Football Outlook

The Cowboys made the playoffs and were one of the better teams in the NFL during 2016. The team has clearly lucked out in having such a stellar combination in Prescott and Elliott. The team is fortunate to have one of the best offensive lines in the league. I see no reason why Elliot’s production should falter next season.

More from FanSided

The team should once again have a very strong offense and Ezekiel Elliott should put up excellent numbers. I guarantee Elliott will finish in the Top 5 for RB Fantasy Points, he is likely to be a Top 3, and could easily be the best RB or Non QB in all of fantasy football. All of those statements are obviously barring some sort of unfortunate injury. Ezekiel Elliott is going to be a force in the NFL for years to come, especially if the Cowboys can keep rolling out a strong offensive line.

Conclusion

Ezekiel Elliott was certainly worth the 6th pick in fantasy football drafts. Elliott was the 2nd best player in all of fantasy football. The only player who would have brought you more value in a draft was David Johnson. Elliott should continue to be a force in the league for many years to come. The young RB will certainly be drafted with one of the first three picks in 2017 fantasy drafts and is one of the RB’s proving the position is still the most valuable in fantasy football.
