As expected, neither driver involved in the pit road scrap after the Kobalt 400 in Las Vegas will face any fines or penalties.

NASCAR has spoken, and the news is good for both Kyle Busch and Joey Logano.

Nor do any members of the No. 22 or No. 18 crews have anything to worry about it. NASCAR revealed today that no one will be punished for the altercation near Logano’s pit at the end of the Kobalt 400 last weekend, one that started on the track with Logano spinning out Busch and leading to the M&M’s driver throwing a punch in retaliation.

Logano’s crew quickly intervened and left Busch famously bloody as he was pulled away by officials, but that doesn’t mean he’s in trouble with the sport’s governing body. Here’s the full scoop via NASCAR.com:

"“After a full review of multiple videos and discussions with both competitors and their respective race teams, we felt Sunday’s post-race incident does not warrant any further action,” said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer. “NASCAR was built on the racing that took place on the final lap by two drivers battling for position. The emotions of our athletes run high, and Kyle Busch and Joey Logano are two of the most passionate and competitive drivers in the sport. Both competitors are very clear on our expectations going forward and we will be meeting with them in person prior to practice on Friday in Phoenix.”"

As the aggressor, Busch had the most to fear in terms of discipline, because whether he felt Logano wrecked him on purpose or not (which would be hard to believe, given how early in the season it is), he just approached Logano and started swinging. Logano laughed it off after the fact, claiming the punch never made contact and also says the two drivers have since spoken briefly.

O’Donnell also signaled right from the start that no punishment was coming, so this outcome is hardly a surprise. The key here is that Busch is on double secret probation of a sort, since NASCAR will be watching to make sure he doesn’t wreck Logano on retaliation, and his sponsor has also frowned on his pugilistic tendencies.

It’s pretty safe to say the majority of NASCAR fans will feel this was a “boys will be boys” situation and agree with the decision to avoid any fines or point deductions. A good scrap every now and then keeps things interesting, especially if no one gets hurt. Busch’s forehead didn’t look like it needed anything more than a band-aid, so everyone should be just fine in this case.
