5 potential replacements for Tom Crean at Indiana
4. Dan Hurley
Rhode Island came out of nowhere to become a conference tournament darling, going on a red-hot streak to close their season and win the Atlantic 10 bracket. It gave them a spot in the 2017 NCAA Tournament as a No. 11 seed and put the school on the map.
Behind all of this is head coach Dan Hurley, who’s in his fifth year with the Rams. He took over in 2012 and started near the bottom with a record of 8-21. However, two years later, he upped their win total by 15. Two years after that, he had them at 24 wins and their first NCAA Tournament berth in almost two decades.
If Hurley can get a run out of Rhode Island for at least one game, he’ll be guaranteed to get some looks as a head coach, if this hasn’t already started. Indiana could come calling if they cast an open net for a coach, something that wouldn’t be surprising since the coaching carousel season is in its infancy.
Hurley should get a call from Indiana to replace Tom Crean, but there are more established names out there. That may matter to Indiana after they hired Crean in 2008, who was coming off a lengthy and successful run at Marquette.
