Penguins pay tribute to former star Jaromir Jagr (Video)
Jaromir Jagr got his first standing ovation from Pittsburgh Penguins fans in over 15 years after a nice tribute video.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have had some of the best players of all time. It’s easy to pin down the legacies of guys like Mario Lemieux, Sidney Crosby, and even guys like Paul Coffey. However, no player has a more complicated legacy Pittsburgh than Jaromir Jagr. His departure to the Washington Capitals didn’t come on the best of terms. Also, Jagr turned down the Penguins to play for the Philadelphia Flyers several years ago. That’s a heck of a heel turn.
But as Jagr’s trending towards the end of his historic career, the Penguins paid tribute to him. He was named to the NHL 100 as one of the top 100 players in league history. The Penguins gave him a nice video tribute, leading to Jagr’s first standing ovation in Pittsburgh in a very long time.
You can tell the Florida Panthers wing is touched by the tribute. Jagr’s been around, but his best times came in Pittsburgh. He helped lead the Penguins to consecutive Stanley Cup titles in his first two seasons. Jagr won each of his five Art Ross Trophies as the league’s leading scorer in Pittsburgh.

His legacy is up in the air with the Penguins. Jagr understandably made a lot of fans mad with his departure and by turning on the team to play for their biggest rival. However, at the end of the day, he’s the best wing to ever put on a Penguins jersey. It’s great to finally see Jagr get properly celebrated and honored by the people who fell in love with him back in the early 1990’s.
