There’s nothing worse than a player on your favorite team missing an open goal, no matter what the context of the game.

Adam Lallana was guilty of an awful error on Sunday, when he missed what can only be described as a sitter against Manchester City in a crucial top four match. City’s Sergio Aguero was also guilty of missing a chance in the game, though it wasn’t as clear cut as Lallana’s.

As a homage to the pair of misses on Sunday, we decided to take a look at the five worst howlers in soccer history.

5. Adam Lallana

First up is the aforementioned miss from Liverpool’s Adam Lallana. With the score tied at 1-1 and time ticking away in a crucial game — Roberto Firminho gifted Lallana the chance to seal the win for Liverpool.

So sure was Firminho that Lallana would score, he started to celebrate the goal just as his team-mate fluffed the chance. Lallana would come out following the game and apologize to his teammates for his horror miss.
