Indianapolis Colts rumors: Kamar Aiken to sign
The Indianapolis Colts are reportedly going to sign wide receiver Kamar Aiken, who had a great year in 2015 before falling off last season.
Colts general manager Chris Ballard has been using free agency to upgrade his defensive roster, but he is now giving some help to quarterback Andrew Luck. On Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that receiver Kamar Aiken and Indianapolis are closing in on a deal.
Aiken, 27, was productive when he got playing time in 2015. After watching Steve Smith Sr. and Breshad Perriman go down with season-ending injuries, Aiken stepped up as the top target and caught 75 passes for 944 yards and five touchdowns. However, with Smith and Perriman healthy in 2016, Aiken’s numbers severely declined to 29 receptions, 328 yards and zero touchdowns.
In Indianapolis, it’s likely that Aiken is the third or fourth receiver behind T.Y. Hilton and Donte Moncrief. The real depth chart battle will be between former first-round pick Phillip Dorsett and Aiken. With general manager Ryan Grigson now out of the picture, the Colts don’t have an allegiance to any of their former picks.

Indianapolis has missed the playoffs each of the past two seasons, failing to post a winning campaign in either. The Colts last reached the postseason in 2014 where Luck led them to an AFC Championship Game appearance. With head coach Chuck Pagano on the proverbial hot seat, the team likely faces the proposition of winning the mediocre AFC South or having a change on the sideline.
