NFL power rankings: Free agency grades
Less than a month into the new NFL year, it’s not too early to rank and grade what all 32 teams have done during the free-agent period.
When it comes to NFL free agency, teams don’t waste much time when it comes to signing new players, discarding overpriced veterans and making trades. It’s arguably the most important time of the year for all 32 franchises as they mold their rosters for the upcoming fall.
So we have looked at each club and ranked their offseason work to date from worst to best. And while we’re at it, we decided to give out some grades along the way as well. And keep in mind we are power-ranking the free-agency period, not the teams in general.
32. New York Jets
The Green and White’s offseason has been a helmet scratcher to date. It’s been far more about subtractions when it comes to Todd Bowles’ club. The New York Jets comes off a disastrous 5-11 showing, winning exactly half as many games as they did in 2015. And it was the manner in which the team performed down the stretch that was particularly disturbing.
There are some big names no longer with the organization. The team kicked center Nick Mangold, cornerback Darrelle Revis and wide receiver Brandon Marshall to the curb. Meanwhile, will general manager Mike Maccagnan bring in a veteran quarterback (Jay Cutler, Colin Kaepernick, etc.) to team with Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg? At the moment, the Jets have a new tackle (Kelvin Beachum) and a new kicker (Chandler Catanzaro) and neither had a good year in 2016.
