25 best Pac-12 football players of the last 25 years
17. Scooby Wright, LB, Arizona
Arizona’s program has largely been built on getting the most out of under-recruited players, and no individual exemplifies that more than Wright after his remarkable 2014 campaign.
Wright played high school football at Cardinal Newman in Santa Rosa, California, where he was rated as just a two-star prospect. Despite the light recruiting fanfare, Rich Rodriguez offered Wright in 2013, and he made a quick impact.
As a true freshman starter, Wright recorded 83 tackles, including nine for loss. Wright’s 2014 campaign took it to another level, as the sophomore piled up a ridiculous 164 tackles, including 31 for loss, along with 15 sacks.
That earned Wright an All-American nod and Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year Award, along with a ninth place finish in the Heisman voting. Sadly, fans didn’t get to see Wright take the field much as a junior due to injury, and he decided to forgo his senior season.
The Cleveland Browns picked Wright in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft, and he has since bounced around practice squads.
