The Washington Redskins are trying to do the rest of the league a favor by introducing a proposal to allow them out of Color Rush Thursday Night uniforms.

Even the biggest fan of the NFL will have to admit that the product of Thursday night games — which has grown from a late-season distraction to a full season nightmare — hasn’t been the best thing for the league. Depleted quality of games, second rate matchups and issues with player safety have been the primary arguments against it.

Oh, and in many cases the God awful Color Rush uniform idea that has been going on for the past two seasons. You know what I’m talking about: from the ketchup vs. mustard game between the Bucs and Rams or the “mess with color blind people” game between the Bills and Jets in 2015, it’s been an experiment that many have called a failure.

Well, one team wants to give their fellow franchises a chance to end this long national nightmare. Ironically, it’s being proposed by one team who has been a long national nightmare for a while now. The Washington Redskins, in a  proposal to the league, wants teams to be able to pull out of doing Color Rush uniforms for fears of looking … well, like idiots.

First off, can we talk about the use of the word ‘garish’ in their proposal? Someone inside the Redskins found their thesaurus and decided to jazz up their way of saying awful, disgusting, loud, annoying … did we mention awful? I mean, this is what they would be wearing:

The irony in all of this is that Washington hasn’t had to deal with the Color Rush phenomenon during its first two years in existence. Its one Thursday night game in 2015 was before the debut later in the season, while their 2016 game on Thanksgiving against Washington was not designated a Color Rush game.

With all that aside, it appears we may be closer to getting back to normal in the world of NFL uniforms. Yes, not all of them are bad (Baltimore, Atlanta and Carolina are actually nice and there are a couple others who are manageable), but the Skins are making it so that they ones that make you want to poke your eyes out go bye bye.
