The Lakers honored Shaquille O’Neal on Friday night, and part of that included this awesome statue outside Staples Center

Shaquille O’Neal is one of the most dominant players in the history of the NBA, and while he did play on a few teams in his illustrious career, most will remember him from his time with the Los Angeles Lakers. During his tenure with the Lakers, he helped lead the organization to three consecutive NBA Championships, along with his partner-in-crime Kobe Bryant.

Shaq truly did have an outstanding run with the Lakers organization, and on Friday night, they rightfully honored one of the greatest big men that the league has ever seen. Part of the ceremony involved the unveiling of an amazing statue, which took place just a short time ago.

There is no doubt that for the time he spent with the Lakers in Los Angeles, Shaq was more than deserving of having a statue erected in his honor to sit outside Staples Center. And really, the design of the sculpture perfectly paints the picture of the type of player O’Neal was on the court.

Up to the point of the unveiling, the ceremony consisted of peers honoring Shaq, including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jerry West and Kobe Bryant. Of course, while it was certainly a surreal sight for some to see Kobe in attendance to offer up some kind words after the beef they had for years, it was Kareem who stole the show with the joke bombs that he was dropping during his time on the mic.

Congratulations, though, are certainly in order for Shaq, who deserves all the honoring that comes his way following the career that he had — especially in LA.
