WrestleMania XXVI

Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker

Just think about this. In the first 26 WrestleManias, Shawn Michaels had the match of the night, at least in my humble opinion, an amazing 11 times and he wasn’t even around for the first few and then missed another five later on in his career. The last appearance for him on this list, and the last appearance of his storied career, came in Arizona at WrestleMania XXVI in his rematch with The Undertaker.

It was streak vs. career going into this one and while it would have been nearly impossible for these two to top what they had done the previous year, that didn’t keep them from trying as they put on yet another exceptional bout. The pace was pretty similar with Michaels once again trying to chop the big man down but things played out a little differently in some of the spots. Sure, we got some of the same things in there, which is going to happen, but it still came off well and they added a few things in there, too. The Tombstone on the floor was nice as was Shawn’s later counter to The Last Ride and the pinning combo to counter Hell’s Gate. I dug the very quick superkick after they separated there as well. Michaels once again went for the moonsault on the outside but he had ‘Taker on the table this time and he absolutely crushed it — the move and the table. Great spot.

Back inside, Michaels hit some more Sweet Chin Music but could only ever get the two count. The Deadman countered the next one into a Tombstone but only got two himself and the crowd is really into this as they should be. The Undertaker went for the slash the throat thing but stopped and just looked down at Shawn, who was struggling to get back to his feet. ‘Taker yelled at him to stay down but Michaels just wouldn’t and gave the signal right back to him, essentially telling him to end it before getting in one last slap in the face. That infuriated The Undertaker and he hit another big Tombstone to pick up the win. Of course, they had a great moment afterwards as the faces of a generation battled one last time in a great match.
