When is Texas A&M spring football game 2017?
As the Aggies wrap up spring football practice, the team prepares to play the 2017 Texas A&M Spring Football Game.
Texas A&M won’t travel to UCLA for the 2017 season opener until September 2, but the Aggies will play a football game soon. The annual Texas A&M spring game is scheduled for Saturday, April 8 at 2:00 p.m. ET at Kyle Field.
Coming off a third consecutive 8-5 season that began with a 6-0 start and included a 4-4 record in conference play, the Aggies have a lot to accomplish this spring. Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin and his staff must replace several key pieces that left for the NFL Draft, including potential No. 1 overall pick Myles Garrett.
Finding a new quarterback is at the top of the list. Senior Jake Hubenak, redshirt freshman Nick Starkel and true freshman Kellen Mond are all competing to replace last year’s starter, Trevor Knight.
The Aggies have also been hard at work this spring rebuilding a talented receiving corps. Whoever wins the QB competition will miss Josh Reynolds, Ricky Seals-Jones and Speedy Noil, who will all be in the NFL in 2017, but will have rising junior playmaker Christian Kirk at his disposal. Kirk has 1,937 receiving yards and 16 touchdown catches through his first two seasons in College Station.
Running back Trayveon Williams, who gained 1,057 rushing yards and scored eight touchdowns as a freshman, also returns. However, A&M must replace starting tackles Avery Gennesy and Jermaine Eluemunor.
With an offense in transition, as well as a defense that must replace Garrett, fellow defensive end Daeshon Hall and linebacker Shaan Washington, the team that takes the field against UCLA will look very different from last year’s unit. Of course, that’s why spring practice exists: to provide the coaching staff an opportunity to evaluate those replacements. The fans will have their opportunity April 8.
