As Mississippi State spring football practice nears its end, the Bulldogs prepare to play the 2017 Maroon/White spring football game.

The Week 1 kickoff against Charleston Southern is still six months away, but Mississippi State football fans will have a chance to see the Bulldogs lineup again soon. The Maroon/White Spring Football Game is set to take place Saturday, April 8 at 3:00 p.m. ET at Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field. The game will be shown nationally on ESPNU and is available to stream on the ESPN App.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 6-7 season that ended on a high note with a 55-20 victory over rival Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl and a nail-biting 17-16 victory over Miami of Ohio in the St. Petersburg Bowl. The victory over the Rebels was the fifth for head coach Dan Mullen in eight seasons. The Bulldogs also extended their school record streak of bowl games to seven.

Overall, despite the program’s first losing record since 2009, last season was a good rebuilding year for the Bulldogs – especially considering the loss of record-setting quarterback Dak Prescott, who won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors with the Dallas Cowboys.

Quarterback Nick Fitzgerald filled in admirably for Prescott, and the rising junior enters 2017 as one of the top signal-callers in the SEC. He’ll be without top receiver Fred Ross, and replacing that production is one of the focal points this spring. Still, with Fitzgerald under center and Aeris Williams back as the team’s top running back, the Bulldogs should be dangerous on offense.

In addition to offering a glimpse of offensive playmakers, the Maroon/White spring game will also give fans an opportunity to see a revamped defense under the direction of new defensive coordinator Todd Grantham. Junior college transfers Chauncey Rivers, Montez Sweat and Johnathan Abram are among the newcomers to watch on defense.
