LaVar Ball has said some outlandish stuff in recent weeks and months and he’s not slowing down as he continues to hype his son, former UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball.

LaVar Ball has never met a microphone he didn’t feel the need to speak into. The outspoken father of former UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball has come under fire for his comments and the pressure he’s placing on his son. The elder Ball has said his son is better than Stephen Curry, he could beat Michael Jordan in a game of one-on-one and wants his three sons to get a billion dollar shoe deal.

He crosses the line from supportive parent to delusional sports fan, but that’s all part of the plan. When Chris Broussard invited LaVar and Lonzo on his podcast “In The Zone,” LaVar made yet another statement that is sure to be headline material.

LaVar Ball said Lonzo will win not one, not two, not three but more than six NBA titles. Six rings is what Jordan won with the Bulls but he sees that as the starting point for Lonzo, who projects as a top-five pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.

Nothing like setting the bar high, right?! Look, I know many of you are sick and tired of hearing about LaVar Ball and what the latest absurd comment to come out of his mouth was, but I will defend him for a brief second.

I think part of this is influenced by the national media and their obsession with him. Look no further than his appearances on ESPN’s First Take or his appearance on Broussard’s podcast. But isn’t it nice to see a parent be so vocal in support of his child? If only he could tone it down a bit and have a sense of reality, it would be much more appreciated. Until then, we’re going to shrug out shoulders and brush off everything out of his mouth.

I think Lonzo Ball has already taken that approach, but he’s got years of experience in dealing with LaVar. The rest of us will catch up toward the end of Lonzo’s rookie contract, at which point LaVar will be demanding he be paid more than the GDP of most European countries.
