Liverpool beat Everton 3-1 at Anfield on Saturday, April 1. Here are all the highlights from the Premier League match.

For a Merseyside derby that featured four goals, Saturday’s match between Liverpool and Everton at Anfield was curiously uneventful.

The match started quickly enough, with Sadio Mane opening the scoring after only eight minutes. It was an excellent goal by the Senegalese winger, who exchanged passes with Roberto Firmino before beating a couple of Toffees defenders and beating Joel Robles with a smart, reversed finish.

The Reds looked like they might start moving through the gears after that, but struggled to break down Everton’s three-man back line. The Toffees found a way back into the game thanks to a set piece, when Matthew Pennington, making his first ever start for the Goodison Park club, finished after Liverpool failed to clear a corner.

The lead was short-lived, however, as the Reds profited from another moment of individual brilliance. Philippe Coutinho was the man this time, beating Idrissa Gueye, before cutting onto his right foot and curling into the top corner.

The second half followed a similar pattern, though Everton began to dominate possession as Liverpool dropped off. Things took a turn for the worse for the Reds when Mane was forced off with an injury after a collision with Leyton Baines, but his replacement, Divock Origi, scored within five minutes of coming on to give his side what was, in the end, a comfortable win.
