The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series standings got the expected shake-up from the season’s first short track race, so let’s check out how the drivers stack up headed to Texas.

After several weeks of Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series racing with very few wrecks, the STP 500 was a bit more collision-filled. Martinsville has a tendency to do that.

It was also a race that featured both drivers who have had a ton of Martinsville success, like Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson, vying for the win against the likes of Brad Keselowski, who had never won prior to today. In the end, it was Brad Keselowski finding his way to Victory Lane, essentially locking him into the 2017 Cup Series playoffs as the season’s first repeat winner.

Kyle Larson had his first race of the season where he was never truly in contention for the win, but he still had a solid run and retained his series points lead. Martinsville wasn’t as kind to Dale Earnhardt Jr., already off to a slow 2017 start, as he crashed out of the STP 500 on Lap 418.
