WWE WrestleMania 33 results: Austin Aries vs Neville full video highlights

Neville defended his WWE Cruiserweight Championship against Austin Aries on the WrestleMania Kickoff show.

The first match seen on the overall WWE WrestleMania broadcast was the Cruiserweight Championship clash, between Champion Neville and challenger Austin Aries. The two men had clashed across RAW and 205 Live, with Aries coming away from the announce desk to step up to challenge the self-proclaimed King of the Cruiserweights .

Aries won a fatal five way match on 205 Live to become the number one contender to Nevile’s Cruiserweight Championship.

As you would expect, both men made a frenetic start, in front of a raucous crowd inside the Camping World Stadium. Neville eventually grounded his challenger, then bailed out of the ring after Aries looked to lock in a submission.

Both men traded takedowns and submission attempts, before Aries gained a two count from a drop kick from the top rope. Aries looked to dive out of the ring onto Neville, but was hit with a hard kick to the face. Neville responded with his own top rope drop kick and a two count.

Neville grounded Aries during the commercial break, and took control of the match. Neville looked to taunt the crowd, but his loss of concentration saw him attacked by Aries. Aries eventually back body dropped Neville to the outside.

Aries hit an axe handle from the top rope to the outside, then hit a suicide dive through the second and bottom rope to drive Neville into the barricade at ringside. Again Aries only got a two count. Neville got back into the match and took control in the corner.

Both men traded strikes on the top rope, Aries then hit a missile drop kick onto Neville in the middle of the ring, that resulted in another two count. Aries was firmly in control at this point, until Neville hit a snap German Suplex on a charging Aries.

Neville hit two more German Suplexes, but couldn’t put his challenger away. Neville gave Aries no chance to get back to his feet and ate numerous big boots in the corner.

Kick and punches were traded, Aries hit his discus five arm finisher, but Neville cleverly rolled to the outside. Aries rolled the champion back into the ring, Neville stuck on the apron and hit a massive kick to take Aries down. Neville went to the top rope but was cut off by Aries.

Aries hit a huge Frankensteiner from the top rope, then hit a 450 Splash, but Neville kicked out at the very last moment. Aries looked to lock in his submission finisher but Neville gouged Aries’ previously injured eye.

Neville managed to connect with the Red Arrow and get the three count to keep hold of his title, in a hot match to kick off proceedings at WrestleMania 33.
