Junior Guerra has been placed on the 10-day DL. He is likely to miss an extended period due to a calf injury.
It didn’t take long for the Milwaukee Brewers to receive some bad news to start the season. Opening day starter Junior Guerra has been placed on the 10-day disabled list after he left his opening day start early. Before exiting the game, Guerra had pitched three innings, striking out four hitters and giving up a two-run homer to Mark Reynolds.
Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel has reported that Guerra has suffered a right calf strain that took place running bases.
Right calf strain for Guerra.

As of now, there is not a timetable for his return. MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy also spoke to manager Craig Counsell regarding the injury.
Junior Guerra is on crutches. This is going to be more than a 10-day absence, Counsell says.

Milwaukee will likely be careful to not bring their ace back too soon. Right now it is impossible to guess when he could possibly return. That will likely be dependent on how his rehab process goes.
Next: Milwaukee Brewers Season Preview
This was not the start to the season the Brewers were looking for as Guerra was slated at the top of the Milwaukee rotation. Guerra, 31, was fantastic in 2016 as a rookie. He maintained a 2.81 ERA across 121 2/3 innings in his first season in the majors. Hopefully, he can return to that form when he is able to return from the injury.
