Chelsea 2-1 Manchester City: Highlights and recap
By Dan Voicescu
Chelsea beat Manchester City 2-1 in the Premier League on Wednesday, April 5. Here are all the highlights from the match.
Wednesday’s game at Stamford Bridge provides the last opportunity for a potentially titillating ending to the 2016-17 Premier League season. Anything but a win for the visiting Manchester City and we are most likely looking at Chelsea cruising to the title over the remaining eight matches.
Chelsea got off to the beter start, as Eden Hazard opened the scoring in the 10th minute. His right-footed finish wasn’t particularly convincing but a deflection off Vincent Kompany, making his long-awaited return from injury was enough to see it past Willy Caballero in goal.
City came back into the game in the 26th minute thanks to some lax play by Thibaut Courtois. The Chelsea keeper passed the ball straight into the path of David Silva. Silva’s shot was saved by Courtois, but the rebound went straight to the feet of Sergio Aguero, who tapped in to level the score.
Chelsea retook the lead in the 34th minute. Fernandinho fouled Pedro in the box, gifting the Blues a penalty. Hazard missed the initial shot, but was quickest to the rebound to restore his side’s lead.
