Southampton sit in the middle of the table. The Saints are seven points clear of the relegation zone but do not have a chance to qualify for Europe. Crystal Palace sit right above the relegation zone. The Eagles are just four points ahead of Hull for the last relegation spot.
Over the weekend, Southampton and Bournemouth played to a 0-0 draw. Both teams had their chances but neither could find the back of the net. The best chance came in the 79th minute when Bournemouth were awarded a penalty. Unfortunately for the Cherries, Harry Arter’s penalty was one of the worst attempts you will ever see. Arter’s shot did not come close to hit the target and went well over the bar.
In the most shocking game over the weekend, Crystal Palace defeated table-topping Chelsea 2-1. The goals came early and often at Stamford Bridge, with Cesc Fabregas opening the scoring in the fifth minute. The Eagles began their comeback in the ninth minute when Wilfried Zaha scored a great goal on a pass from Christian Beneteke. The 24-year-old has been fantastic this season for Crystal Palace. Two minutes later, Beneteke would make a fantastic run. Beneteke turned around David Luiz, who lost his footing and fell down. The Belgian striker would pass it off to Zaha, who immediately gave the ball back to Beneteke who easily beat Thibaut Courtois to give Crystal Palace the 2-1 win.
