The Tennessee Titans have recently worked out Miami TE prospect David Njoku.

The Titans reportedly brought in ultra-athletic TE David Njoku for a pre-draft workout. With the 5th and 18th picks in the upcoming 2017 draft, the Titans have plenty of prospects to sort through.

In the world we live in today, keeping track of draft workouts and visits are about the only reliable way to keep tabs on what the general manager may be thinking leading up to the draft.

The Titans tight-lipped GM, Jon Robinson has yet to allude to any specific players with picks 5 and 18.

David Njoku has been a prospect that is climbing up draft boards ever since the NFL combine.  Standing at 6-foot-4 with a  35 1/4″ wingspan, Njoku has been compared to current NFL TE Greg Olsen.

The former high school high jump champion brings athleticism to the TE position that is hard to come by and is sought after by many GMs in the game today.

Although the Titans have a Pro Bowl tight end in Delanie Walker, he will be turning 33 in August and its time to start looking for his successor.

Walker has been an extremely productive TE during his time in Nashville and has been essential to the growth of the young franchise QB Marcus Mariota.

Exotic smash mouth?

While Njoku fits the mold of the “seam-splitting” tight end,  the Titans need a tight end that fits their system of “exotic smash mouth” football.  With that said,  there are concerns that Njoku’s weakness may be his strength and run blocking ability.

It’s hard to see the Titans taking Njoku with the 5th or 18th  pick.  Although he is a great football talent, Head Coach Mike Mularkey wants his tight ends to have their hand in the ground blocking for the two-headed monster of DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry.

With the loss of run blocking specialist Anthony Fasano this offseason, look for the Titans to dial in on a TE prospect that can bury defensive ends and burn linebackers.

The name OJ Howard comes to mind.

Don’t be surprised to see GM Jon Robinson bring in the Alabama tight end for a visit in the near future.
