Even though UCLA’s basketball season has been over for a few weeks, LaVar Ball is still making head-scratching statements about the team.

Throughout the 2016-17 college basketball season, you heard LaVar Ball’s name more than this son, Lonzo — the star guard from UCLA. The eldest Ball son had a terrific season for the Bruins, leading them to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament, only to lose to Kentucky. However, for as often as this happened, you heard LaVar make a head-turning statement to the media.

To add more fuel to this, the elder Ball gave the Los Angeles Daily News a quote that will draw eyes. He spoke about the attributes of a few particular players holding back the team from winning a championship:

"“Realistically you can’t win no championship with three white guys because the foot speed is too slow,” LaVar Ball said. “I told Lonzo – ‘One of these games you might need to go for 30 or 40 points.’ It turned out the that was the one game. Then once they get to the Elite 8, they’re right there.”"

It’s the latest bold statement of Ball’s to make its way into the public. He hasn’t been willing to hold back his words, especially with Lonzo out of school and heading to the NBA, where he could be a top pick in June’s NBA Draft. If Ball continues to make statements like this when his 19-year-old is in the pros, then it may make him an unnecessary target of opposing players during games.

Once the NBA Draft approaches, expect to hear more of the same from LaVar Ball. He’ll talk about where he wants his oldest son to go, and then turn to LiAngelo and LaMelo — his second and third oldest kids, respectively — and potentially do the same thing. When are we getting a reality show out of all this?
