The Masters 2017: Biggest names to miss the cut
By John Buhler

Round 2 of the 2017 Masters Tournament is in the books, which means it’s cut time. Which golfers failed to make the cut after Friday’s 18 holes?
The 81st playing of The Masters Tournament is halfway home, as Round 2 is in the books. That means some of your favorite golfers failed to make the cut. The cut was set at +6 after Round 2. Here are some of the biggest names to miss the cut.
40 golfers missed the cut on Friday, including several former Masters winners. Last year’s winner Danny Willett missed the cut at +7. He shot a 73 on Thursday, but an atrocious first hole on Friday ending in a quadruple bogey that certainly wrecked his day. Willett won’t be able to repeat as Masters Champion in 2017.
Shane Lowry may have had the worst day of anybody in the tournament. His putrid second round botched his strong day one score. Lowry entered Round 2 at even par but that didn’t translate at all. He shot a 79 (+7) on Friday to miss the cut. Lowry bogeyed seven of the first 10 holes, including a frustrating double bogey on 10.
Two-time Masters Champion (2012, 2014) Bubba Watson finished Round 2 at a miserable +8. Though he shot a decent 74 (+2) on Thursday, a 78 (+6) ultimately did him in. Bogeying five of the first six holes on Friday and eight holes on the day has Watson heading home from Augusta two days early.
2008 Masters Champion Trevor Immelman had a rough last two days at Augusta. He shot a dreadful 79 (+7) on Thursday and didn’t do much better on Friday with a 76 (+4). His double bogey on 17 Friday pretty much did Immelman in from having any chance at getting to make the cut. He finished with an awful +11 on the tournament before being cut.

Shane Lowry +7
Jim Furyk +7

Former Masters winners end up missing the cut due to old age all the time. However, to not see Willett have his chance to repeat or Watson to win a third Green Jacket is a real shame. They may have only missed the cut by a few strokes, but +7 and +8 heading into Saturday leave a golfer title chance at winning the tournament any way.
