The recently retired Cowboys QB acknowledged a former teammate’s praise today.

Twitter was full of emotion on Saturday for those who have played for and root for the Dallas Cowboys.

Earlier today, Cowboys tight end Jason Witten released a heartfelt letter on Twitter expressing his respect and gratitude for his former quarterback, Tony Romo. Witten told tales of how the two first met along with the struggles they faced under the strict Bill Parcells over a decade ago.

The tight end admitted there was no other person he would have rather spent the longevity of his career with. Not only does Witten praise Romo as a player, but he is quick to demonstrate how great of a man No. 9 is. The full letter is below:

In reply a few hours later, Mr. Romo had something to say back to his former pass catcher:

Sappy stuff right here. If you’re a Cowboys fan, you cannot get enough of it. For the rest of America, this is probably the last thing you want to read. Jokes aside, this was a cool interaction to see on social media today between two greats.

Witten was Romo’s favorite target throughout the years; the chemistry those two had was fun to watch on Sundays. The repertoire that was built between the teammates is probably something hard for Witten to see vanish, as he remains on the team playing with a new QB.

We often forget that professional athletes are people too. They have emotions just like everyone else. Romo and Witten were not just there to give us a reason to sit on the couch. These were two real guys who pushed each other to be the best they could be. That is what friendship and teamwork is all about. We are with Jason Witten when we say we will miss Tony Romo.
