After 73 Majors and his second playoff ever, Sergio Garcia brings in the win and everyone took to Twitter to congratulate him, including Tiger Woods.
It seemed like everyone wanted Sergio Garcia to win, after having participated in 73 Majors and 19 years after his first one. The world was pulling for him and this time, the top golfer, with the reputation as a “choker,” pulled off the win in the playoff. Even after all this time, the win was well worth the wait. The last three holes had everything you hoped for in a major golf championship: urgency, excitement, anticipation, tension, but above all beautiful shot making.
Miraculously, Sergio Garcia shot an eagle when he needed it, at the 15th hole, and we knew we were in for a real contest. And it kept coming, with expert play all the way to the end. He had two chances to bring it home and he did in one, finishing off the 18th hole playoff in style.
Many notables in sport, media, and life took to twitter to express their extreme happiness. Here are some of the highlights.
Tiger Woods was among the first to congratulate the 2017 Masters champ.
Congrats @TheSergioGarcia. Well earned.

This list wouldn’t be complete without a reaction to hole 15, that began the surge to Sergio’s victory:

Jason Sobel tweeted a great quote from Garcia from five years ago. On Sunday, at the 2017 Masters, he proved that he was finally “good enough.”
Five years and one day ago, Sergio Garcia on trying to win the Masters: "I'm not good enough. ... I don't have the thing I need to have."
