Sebastien Bourdais widens his lead in the Verizon IndyCar Series with a strong showing at Long Beach. Here are the updated points standings after two races.

Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais remains the Verizon IndyCar Series championship leader after the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. Bourdais finished as the runner-up in Sunday’s race for his second consecutive Top 2 finish—a feat also accomplished by Simon Pagenaud on his way to the 2016 IndyCar title.

Long Beach race winner James Hinchcliffe jumped from ninth to second with the victory, while Pagenaud now sits third after driving his way from dead last to Top 10 finish. Four-time champion Scott Dixon slides to fourth.

Rounding out the championship Top 5 is Pagenaud’s Team Penske colleague Josef Newgarden, who gained three spots from eighth to fifth with his third-place finish at Long Beach.

That was the opposite of Andretti Autosport’s Marco Andretti, who lost three positions from seventh to tenth position as mechanical problems caused him to finish near the back of the pack on Sunday. Andretti now leads a pack of nine drivers who are separated by just six points.
