Miles Bridges may be returning to Michigan State for his sophomore season

Michigan State is a team fans are used to seeing in the upper echelon of the college basketball world, but this past season was different. They were young and inexperienced and this ultimately led to their demise. But, some of that youth has apparently decided to return for a second season.

It was announced today by Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical that Spartans freshman sensation Miles Bridges will be returning for his sophomore season. This comes as a shock to many considering he was supposed to be a lottery selection in the upcoming NBA Draft.

According to DraftExpress, Bridges was projected to go No. 11 to the Charlotte Hornets. That is usually what these young kids are looking for but he decided to come back to improve his game and potentially become a higher draft pick in 2018.

Bridges was an extremely talented player coming out of Huntington Prep in Huntington, West Virginia. He was ranked as a five-star recruit who was the No. 14 player in the class of 2016 and the No. 5 small forward that year as well.

When Bridges’ recruitment came to an end, he selected Michigan State over Indiana and Kentucky. He was a huge get for the Spartans and the Big Ten.

The first season Bridges was with the Spartans he shined bright. He was by far the best player on the team and that is one reason why I am surprised he didn’t declare for the NBA Draft. He finished the season averaging 32 minutes per game and in that time put up 16.9 points and 8.3 rebounds.

Tom Izzo and the Michigan State fanbase have to be excited to have Bridges come back to the program. They were going to be losing a great player, but now they are getting back a contender for the Wooden Award next season.

With Bridges coming back to join the other returning players, and a class of 2017 that has the No. 28 player in the nation coming in, I would be scared to face the Spartans next season.
