The Tennessee Titans have reportedly decided to part ways with the cornerback who had been on the team’s roster since 2009.

Jason McCourty is reportedly now without a home for the 2017 NFL season as the Tennessee Titans have opted to release the cornerback on Thursday according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Following the news of his release, McCourty posted this message on his Twitter account thanking the Titans and their fans.

Apparently, Tennessee did not feel the cornerback was worth the $7 million he was scheduled to make this season. By releasing McCourty, the Titans now have some extra spending money this offseason.

In eight years with the Titans, the cornerback appeared in 108 games and accumulated 496 total tackles, 13 interceptions, and 72 pass deflections. Still only 29 years old, McCourty should generate plenty of interest from other teams around the NFL before the start of next season.

His twin brother, Devin, currently plays for the New England Patriots and rumors of Jason landing in the state of Massachusetts with his sibling have already begun.

The Patriots have been a part of numerous trade rumors with various cornerbacks this season, so any interest in McCourty would not come as a surprise. A New England secondary featuring the the McCourty brothers, Logan Ryan, and Malcolm Butler would certainly cause problems for opposing team’s in 2017.

As for Tennessee, selecting a cornerback with the either one of their first-round picks (fifth, 18th) in the upcoming NFL Draft now seems very likely.
