With the Minnesota Timberwolves jumping into the top three, the Philadelphia 76ers’ own pick slides back a spot to No. 5, giving them the opportunity to land another piece to help fill out their already fascinating young core. With Lonzo Ball already in the fold at No. 4, Philadelphia picks up a sharpshooting off guard to play next to Ball in the backcourt.
Kentucky’s Malik Monk projects to be a near elite outside shooter at the next level. He averaged 24.8 points per 40 minutes as a freshman with a 58.6 true shooting percentage. Monk can knock down 3s off the catch, coming off of screens or off the bounce. His release is quick and he gets great elevation to help make up for his lack of size. Monk connected on 39.7 percent of his 3s in college while firing them up at a high rate and shooting well from the foul line.
Figuring out what else Monk can do will be a tougher task. He’s got a decent bit of shake off the dribble, but doesn’t get to the rim at a high rate. His size also limits his defense, so he’ll need to be a valuable offensive piece to make up for that.
