Cyle Larin, Sebastian Giovinco and a surprisingly resilient Minnesota defense were the highlights of Week 8 in MLS.

It was a pretty eventful Week 8 in MLS play. Three games ended in draws, four matches ended with three plus goals and the Philadelphia Union still haven’t won a game this season.

It was a pretty good week for leading goal scorer Erick “Cubo” Torres, who scored his seventh goal of the season against the San Jose Earthquakes. It was also a big week for Orlando City’s Cyle Larin, whose second two-goal performance of the season helped seal a victory for his side over New York City FC.

Maybe the most eventful match saw the Montreal Impact came back from 3-0 down to earn a point against the Union in Philadelphia on Saturday.

No matter which team you support, it was a good week to be an MLS fan this weekend.

Sebastian Giovinco is back

In a match that saw two MLS stars face off, it was Sebastian Giovinco and Toronto FC that grabbed three points in a 3-1 win over Bastian Schweinsteiger and the Chicago Fire.

Going into the match, TFC needed to get a result after going three straight matches without a win and losing their first match of the season a week prior, to rivals Columbus Crew.

Giovinco opened the scoring with a nicely placed shot inside the Fire’s box. After that, it was all TFC as center-back Eriq Zavaleta headed home a powerful header in the 32nd minute to give his side a two-goal lead.

Before the match, some were doubting TFC’s star man Giovinco, who had only one goal in five games. The Atomic Ant silenced those critics in this match, scoring his second of the game, and third of the season, in the 82nd minute before being subbed off in the 85th.

Giovinco was visibly upset at being substituted, and even took down a security rope. That sort of reaction was perhaps not particularly surprising since he’s been struggling, and was on a hat-trick, but the good news for TFC is their star man appears to be back on track.
