The New York Jets are in an interesting position. General manager Mike Maccagnan and head coach Todd Bowles are entering their third seasons respectively, and are yet to produce a playoff berth. Owner Woody Johnson has never been known for patience, and so the selfish move would be to draft a quarterback and hope for the best. However, the best organizational move would be to select Malik Hooker, who is the best player available at this spot. Hooker was a dominant player in a loaded Ohio State secondary, playing alongside Gareon Conley and Marhson Lattimore.
New York could select Mitchell Trubisky or Deshaun Watson here, but smart money says it rolls with either Bryce Petty, Christian Hackenberg or Josh McCown. Petty and Hackenberg are both young unknowns, with the latter being drafted in the second round last year out of Penn State. Drafting a quarterback in the firund would only create a large logjam, and bury two developing players on the depth chart. Hooker would step in and immediately start alongside Calvin Pryor, another former first-round pick by Gang Green. After releasing Brandon Marshall, Darrelle Revis and Nick Mangold, it appears to be a full rebuild in New York.
