DraftKings MLB Picks For April 25

We have 14 games for our main DraftKings tournament tonight. If you want to include the Houston-Cleveland game, you have to play one of the turbo slates that include the 6pm and 7pm eastern first pitch times. As for the main slate, there are four pitchers in five digit prices, and another five that are $8,500 or more.

The money line was down a ways to 112 DraftKings points. One lineup missed because all of the hitters did. The other one snuck into the money despite Amir Garrett‘s -15.7. Yes, that is a negative number! I would have made four more dollars if I had started no one at the slot! I wasn’t alone. He was nearly 50% owned.

The winning lineup was up a ways to 222.1 DraftKings points. This was largely due to most pitchers struggling. He had the two that didn’t in Zack Greinke and Miguel Gonzalez. He also had Eric Thames, Hernan Perez and a Diamondback stack that came up big.

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

P: Clayton Kershaw ($14,300): I don’t really like spending this much on a pitcher, but tonight I will make an exception. Kershaw’s home and road splits are drastic, but when you have a ERA below 0.5 at home in the last ten starts, that will happen. The Giants are hitting a pathetic .158 in 322 at bats against Kershaw with a lousy .180 wOBA. Buster Posey is the only player Giant to homer off of him (twice). Actually, Posey is the same price as my catcher in the other lineup. I may switch to Buster if I feel lucky, but it’s hard to do based on Kershaw’s dominance.

P: Erasmo Ramirez ($4,400): Okay, before you stop reading, just hear me out. Agreed? Ramirez has held the Orioles to a .221 average and .262 wOBA in 140 at bats! At that point, it ceases to be a fluke! Ramirez only has 28 strikeouts, so his ability to mitigate the damage is limited, but with this kind of history, I’m willing to take the chance. Quietly, Ramirez has gone 2-0 with a 3.07 ERA and sparkling 0.68 WHIP so far. He gave up just one run to the Tigers in his first start of the year. He wont go deep into this game, but he should do much better than Amir Garrett last night.

C: Geovany Soto ($2,400): Soto has clobbered Danny Duffy so far. He is 2-6 against the Royals lefty, but both hits are home runs. Soto is a cheap stab at a long ball tonight, and for this price, why not?

1B: Mike Napoli ($4,000): Napoli is 10-25 with two walks, four doubles, three homers, seven runs scored, and an impressive 10 RBI against Ervin Santana in his career. His wOBA is a bloated .569. Napoli is off to a bit of a slow start, but facing someone that he has dominated could change that.

2B: Robinson Cano ($4,200): Cano is 3-4 with two walks and two runs scored against Jordan Zimmerman. Zimmerman has got off to a slow start with a 5.94 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. His only quality start was in his first game against Boston, but Minnesota and Tampa both roughed him up a bit. Seattle has a chance to do the same.

3B: Evan Longoria ($4,900): Longoria is just 5-24(.208) against Wade Miley, but his wOBA is a solid .352 because all five hits are for extra bases! Longoria has two walks, three doubles, two homers, three runs scored, and four RBI off of MIley. I will take the chance that he can get to him again.

SS: Elvis Andrus ($3,900): Elvis is 12-48 against Santana, but all of the hits are singles. However, he has also walked six times, drove in two, stole two bases, and scored an impressive 11 runs. Power is nice to have on DraftKings, but crooked numbers can help propel you above the cash line.

OF: Adam Duvall ($4,300): Duvall is 5-14(.357) with a double, a homer, two runs scored, and four RBI so far against Zach Davies. Davies has struggled some against the Reds, so you could try a stack here, though none of the hitters are cheap.

OF: Matt Kemp ($3,800): Kemp is 3-6 with a walk, a double, a homer, two RBI, and a .693 wOBA against Robert Gsellman. Kemp came off the DL cold, going just 1-13 in his first three games back. He broke out of that slump on Sunday, going 2-4 with a homer. Kemp started the season hot before getting hurt. He could get right back to it tonight.

OF: Jacoby Ellsbury ($3,800): Ellsbury is 12-31(.387) with a .529 wOBA against Rick Porcello. Porcello sure hasn’t looked like an ace so far, and many Yankees are cheap enough to put together a strong stack. They are hitting .301 against Porcello in 136 at bats. Ellsbury has three walks, two doubles, four steals, eight runs scored, and four solo homers against Porcello. I’m looking for a strong total here!

Apr 14, 2017; Atlanta, GA, USA; Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Julio Teheran (49) throws against the San Diego Padres during the first inning during the first MLB game at SunTrust Park. Mandatory Credit: Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Julio Teheran ($10,000): Teheran has dominated the Mets in his career. Almost as much as Kershaw has dominated the Giants. The difference is that Teheran is more than $4,000 cheaper! The Mets are hitting just .181 in 166 at bats against Teheran with four homers, only 12 runs, nad a solid 30 strikeouts. They also have mustered just a .242 wOBA. Curtis Granderson and Jay Bruce have both managed two homers against Teheran, but they are a combined 10-50.

P: Ervin Santana ($7,100): Santana’s numbers against the Rangers are not very good. They have hit .308 off of him in 133 at bats, but only have four homers. Still, they have scored 27 runs while only striking out 23 times. Why would I bother using him then? Because Santana is 3-0 with a 0.64 ERA, 0.61 WHIP, and 20 strikeouts in 28 innings. His mound opponent is Andrew Cashner, which increases his chances for a win.

C: Yadier Molina ($3,300): Molina is very familiar with Marco Estrada from his days in the NL Central. Molina is 13-24(.542) with two doubles, a homer, five runs scored, and five RBI against Estrada. Estrada has improved since his days with the Brewers, but that kind of line is no accident.

1B: Chris Davis ($4,700): Davis is the only Oriole that has had any kind of success against Erasmo Ramirez. Davis is 6-19(.316) with a .437 wOBA, two doubles, two homers, three runs scored, and six RBI agianst Ramirez. I know the Orioles could be a popular stack, but the only one I will consider is Davis.

2B: Ian Kinsler ($4,100): Kinsler is only hitting .232(19-82) against Felix Hernandez, but he has a solid .341 wOBA. That means that the hits have done some damage. Kinsler has an impressive 12 walks, three doubles, four homers, eight RBI, and a ridiculous 18 runs scored against the King. Felix isn’t quite the pitcher he used to be, especially on the road. Kinsler is a solid play tonight.

3B: Maikel Franco ($4,100): Franco is 4-12 with a double, a homer, and two RBI off of Wei-Yin Chen in his career. The Phillies are hitting .378 as a whole against Chen, so there is a lot of potential here is you decide to juse a few Phillies. Every starter has at least one hit against Chen in their careers.

SS: Asdrubal Cabrera ($3,500): Cabrera has the best wOBA against Teheran at .425. He is 6-15 with a walk, two doubles, a RBI, and two stolen bases in his career against Teheran. Stolen bases are often overlooked on DraftKings, but they are worth as much as a double. That can help you rack up points in a hurry!

OF: Mike Trout ($5,300): Trout is 2-4 with three walks, three runs scored, and a solo homer against Jesse Hahn. There is a good chance that this is a high scoring game. Both pitchers have allowed the other team to hit .300 or better, but Trout has the only homer against Hahn.

OF: Christian Yelich ($4,300): Yelich is 3-8 with a .700 wOBA against Vince Velasquez so far. He has a triple, two homers, two runs scored, and three RBI in just those eight at bats. Velasquez has managed to contain the rest of the Marlins which limits Yelich’s potential of runs and RBI, but if he takes him deep, we wont complain. Seriously. His worst hit off of him is a triple!

OF: Khris Davis ($3,600): Davis is a perfect 4-4 against JC Ramirez with a homer, three runs scored, and two RBI. There is a reason that Ramirez is $4,200. There is a great chance that Oakland beats up on him tonight, and Davis is their highest priced hitter. There could be some bargains in there.
