An aerial view of the new Park at Wrigley Field reveals a questionable design choice.

Opened a few weeks ago to begin the 2017 season, the new plaza beside Wrigley Field features restaurants, office space, and a very unfortunate pavement layout. The Twitter account Wrigley Aerials posted an overhead picture of the park on Monday, turning it into a prime source of juvenile humor.

With events happening in the plaza for the first few weeks of the season, fans haven’t had much chance to get a look at the lines on the ground. Now, with the space clear and the sun finally shining, there’s no hiding the regrettable (and hilarious, albeit in a juvenile way) pattern. The jury is still out on whether this was deliberate or not, as well as whether it is funnier if it wasn’t. If it wasn’t on purpose, then how did nobody catch that?

It isn’t beyond baseball fans to try and disrupt the building of rivals stadiums. When the New York Yankees were building their new ballpark, a Red Sox fan and worker buried a Boston jersey in the cement of the new venue.

Could this design flaw at the Wrigley Field park be the work of a White Sox or St. Louis Cardinals fan on the design team?

This addition to one of the most revered venues in sports probably won’t contribute much to its legacy. The Park at Wrigley, as it’s known, was opened next to the home of the Chicago Cubs to help improve the surrounding Wrigleyville area. It may have done that, but it looks like it’s also added some more fuel to the dying fire of Cubs-related jokes.

There’s been little cause to laugh at the Cubs recently after winning the World Series in 2016, until now. The team surely must be cursed, because even when they’re the best team in baseball there’s no escape.

Nothing brings childish fans together (especially online) like some good ol’ anatomy humor. This isn’t the first time the Cubs have taken some heat from this area of comedy, either (warning: NSFW).

The park hasn’t been much of a good luck charm for the World Champs this year, with the Cubs going 4–5 so far at home. They still sit first in the weak NL Central, though, being 11–8 on the season overall.
