Former Clemson quarterback and prospective NFL draft pick Deshaun Watson says that Mitch Tribusky being taken before him would be a “slap in the face.”

Former Clemson quarterback and prospective draft pick Deshaun Watson said earlier this week on NFL Network that teams were going to have to “live with the consequences” of not taking him over Mitch Trubisky in upcoming NFL draft. Today, Watson followed up those comments adding taking Trubisky over him would be a “slap in the face.”

Watson noted he respects all prospects in the draft, but believes his championship pedigree proves he is a better player than Trubisky. Watson has a point, he has a proven background in big games and led Clemson to back-to-back national championship games against Alabama. On the other hand, Trubisky has just one year of starting experience at the highest level of college football.

While Watson may have more pedigree, that does not always translate into success at the NFL level. Moreover, Watson has a history of being a sore loser when it comes to ranking second amongst quarterbacks. When asked by Jon Gruden what he needed to do to win the Heisman Watson bashed Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson.

“I’m not sure. I guess lose a couple games?” Watson quipped.

There is no question that Watson may be one of the most talented and NFL ready quarterbacks in this draft. However, his maturity over this last month as Mitch Trubisky solidified himself as the No. 1 quarterback in the draft class has been suspect at best. One cannot claim to have respect for an individual and then call it a slap in the face when someone suggests they might be better at a job, especially a skilled job like quarterback. That may be the opposite of respect.

I know that Watson is trying to portray a killer instinct here however let’s just hope it’s not backfiring on him.
