Could the Broncos be considering trading up with the Titans on Thursday in the NFL Draft?

Jason Cole of Bleacher Report is reporting that John Elway and the Denver Broncos are considering making a move in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday. According to Cole, the team may be considering trading up to as high as No. 5 with the Tennessee Titans.

Might be too rich is an understatement when moving from pick No. 20 to pick No. 5. We’re talking probably a 2nd and 3rd-rounder at the minimum, in addition to the 20th pick. However, by all accounts Christian McCaffrey, the player the Broncos would be assumed to pick, is a special player. But most of the draft insiders at NFL.com have Leonard Fournette ranked as the number one running back in the draft.

McCaffrey is the son of Broncos legend Ed McCaffrey, and his addition would add an instant threat to the team’s running attack. Last season C J Anderson went down with an injury and Devontae Booker was lackluster in his absence. But would John Elway really give up his first three picks to draft McCaffrey, or something similar in value?

Now the other side of the coin would be if the Broncos were trading up to go after a quarterback. That would be a real shocker since Elway leapfrogged the Dallas Cowboys to get Paxton Lynch in last year’s draft. Even now the Broncos are not sure Lynch will get the nod over Trevor Siemian, so it could be conceivable that the team trade up to get a quarterback, Deshaun Watson or Mitchell Trubisky, and then trade Lynch. Elway has done that before when he traded Tim Tebow to the Jets back in 2012.

Ultimately I don’t believe any of this would be ideal for the Broncos, but given Cole’s report, it had to be considered. John Robinson would certainly love for the Tennessee Titans to have two more day two picks.
