The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to a draft day trade, landing running back Kapri Bibbs and a fifth-round pick from the Denver Broncos for a 2018 pick.

New San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch continues to impress in his first NFL Draft. He has been moving up and down the draft board all weekend long. His most recent deal gained him the No. 177 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and running back Kapri Bibbs.

Lynch struck a day three deal with his former employer in the Denver Broncos to land Bibbs and the No. 177 pick in exchange for the 49ers’ 2018 fourth-round pick. San Francisco needs all the talent it can get. While Denver needs running back talent and San Francisco is loaded at that position, perhaps this is a move that both organizations can benefit from.

Denver also has new coaching staff. Perhaps Bibbs isn’t gong to fit in offensive coordinator Mike McCoy’s system? 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan loves extracting value with under-the-radar running backs. Bibbs could be a scat back for the 2017 49ers in his first year in the Bay Area.

As for Denver, the Broncos should be getting one of the better picks in the fourth-round of the 2018 NFL Draft. San Francisco should be better than 2-14 in 2017, but anything more than six wins this upcoming season would be a huge surprise form the 49ers.

In short, Denver ensured that it will have one of the top-10 picks in the fourth round of next year’s NFL Draft. Denver will be on the cusp of getting back into the AFC Playoffs. Unless the Broncos crater, they will be picking in the late teens or early 20s of next year’s draft. Getting another pick for a player they were probably going to cut is a good get for them, especially since Bibbs originally went undrafted out of Colorado State.
