How did the Dallas Cowboys fare in the 2017 NFL Draft?

The 2017 NFL Draft has come and gone and now it is time for review. Of course, it will be easier to look back in a few years and really find out how these players fit and transitioned to their new roles. But as a whole, you can understand team philosophies and processes that deserve to be examined upon first glance. With that being said, here is the Dallas Cowboys’ final grade.

Taco Charlton

Defensive End, Michigan

The Cowboys needed a pass rush in the worst kind of way. In an on the field point of view, Charlton profiles similarly to a player such as Greg Hardy, that the Cowboys swung and missed on due to outside reasons. However, Charlton has a clean backstory. He has the same size as Hardy and can fit into a similar role as to what was envisioned with Hardy.

Charlton is a long-armed bull rusher who uses his length well to separate, extend on offensive lineman and wrap up in the running game. He comes in well refined in his movements and has the size and upside to be a great fit in the Rod Marinelli 4-3 scheme.

Now with four pass rushers in Charlton, Demarcus Lawrence, David Irving and Tyrone Crawford they have four defensive ends who can rotate at times in rushing the passer. Charlton has the highest ceiling of the bunch and due to the need is a great pick at this point.
