How did the Indianapolis Colts fare in the 2017 NFL Draft? We grade the entire class.

The NFL draft has come and gone and now it is time for review. Of course, it will be easier to look back in a few years and really find out how these players fit and transitioned to their new roles. But as a whole, you can understand team philosophies and processes which deserve to be examined upon first glance. With that said, here is the Indianapolis Colts final grade.

Malik Hooker

Safety, Ohio State

The Colts were in a position where they needed to take the best player available. They did just that and were rewarded with a player with a high ceiling a potential to be a game-changing talent.

The knocks on Hooker are easy to find. He is recovery from injury right now, he has one year of starting experience and he is not very scheme diverse. However, the pros on Hooker are just as easy. He is a ball hawk. He has sideline to sideline range and is able to defend the entire deep third. In a Cover-three or a cover-one defense, you can stick Hooker in the back end and he frees up a lot of space and ability to do things in the box with a free safety.

T.J. Green was drafted in the second round last year but is not on the same caliber as Hooker and Hooker will easily start over him. Green can likely still some time, but with Clayton Geathers, a guy who can play the box, it seems like a great for two safeties moving forward in Indianapolis.
