The Los Angeles Rams didn’t have a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, but made eight selections to get better as a team. Here is their NFL Draft grade.

The Los Angeles Rams had their backs against the wall entering the 2017 NFL Draft. They traded up to take California Golden Bears quarterback Jared Goff No. 1 overall last spring. Goff may be a star in the making, but he and the toothless 2016 were absolutely dreadful. Worst of all, they didn’t have the No. 5 overall pick in this spring’s draft that they desperately needed. That coveted pick went to the Tennessee Titans.

With a new coaching staff in place with Sean McVay as head coach, Wade Phillips as defensive coordinator and Matt LaFleur as offensive coordinator, we expected Rams general manager Les Snead to get the new Rams people what they want.

Here is a look at the eight picks that Los Angeles made in Philadelphia this weekend and their 2017 NFL Draft grade.

Second Round

44

Gerald Everett

Tight End, South Alabama Jaguars

This was a deep tight end draft and the Rams certainly got one of the better players at the position. They used their No. 44 overall pick in the second round to take Gerald Everett out of the University of South Alabama. Everett has the potential to be a Jordan Reed level of a tight end in McVay and LaFleur’s offense. Los Angeles needed to hit it big with their first pick of the draft and did so by taking Everett in round two.

Third Round

69

Cooper Kupp

Wide Receiver, Eastern Washington Eagles

Eastern Washington Eagles wide receiver Cooper Kupp had been a favorite of many football scouts. They feel that he can be a physical possession receiving in the slot. Not that the Rams needed another slot receiver in Los Angeles, but Kupp offers a different skill set from that of Tavon Austin. Kupp could bust catastrophically, but it was worth the No. 69 pick for the Rams to make that selection.

91

John Johnson

Safety, Boston College Eagles

For as talented as the Rams’ front-seven has been the last few years under former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, Phillips quickly recognized that the secondary isn’t up to par in Los Angeles. Waiting until No. 91 to take a defensive back in Boston College Eagles’ John Johnson was a questionable move, but look for Phillips to coach him up as a rookie.
