2017 NFL Draft: Miami Dolphins Final Grade
The Rest
Tankersley is a long and tall cornerback who can play press man and zone in the NFL. His 2015 tape would have had him looked at as a second round player at the latest, but he did show some struggles under the spotlight as a player on an island in 2016.
Tankersley is still a fluid player and should be the first outside backup behind Xavien Howard and Byron Maxwell with a chance to be a future starter on the outside.
The Dolphins traded up for the pick but may have nailed their guy and hit a big fit. Last season, the Dolphins went as the run game went. Unfortunately, the run game fluctuated due to injuries on the offensive line. Laremy Tunsil started at guard most of last season, but the team traded Branden Albert, pushing him to his natural position of left tackle. It leaves a starting guard spot up for grabs, and Asiata should have every chance to win that job week one.
Godchaux does not have much burst or athleticism. However, he can fill in, and next to Ndamukong Suh can at least take on blockers. The team currently has Suh, Jordan Phillips and fringe roster players on the interior. Godchaux should have a great shot at making the team and seeing rotational snaps.
Taylor may have just as much talent and potentially more upside than Godchaux. Taylor has big time size and length to dominate the position. He has used his size to dominate on special teams and he can take up space and push back on the interior. Godchaux and Taylor should be able to rotate in behind Suh and Phillips as rookies.
Ford is a downfield, outside threat. He has a great catch radius and good ball tracking ability. The team has a lot of depth at wide receiver, but it is tough to imagine Ford making his way to the practice squad.
