Jamaal Charles has inked a one-year deal with the Denver Broncos

Jamaal Charles spent the first nine years of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs.

After being released by Kansas City earlier this offseason, Charles has agreed to a one-year deal with the Broncos.

Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report the transaction.

NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport later added that the contract could be worth $3.75 million. There will now be some added intrigue within the AFC West this season as Charles joining the division rival Broncos creates an interesting storyline. Kansas City moved on from Charles with Spencer Ware taking the lead role for the Chiefs.

The move to sign Charles has was something of a formality after the team brought him in for a visit on Tuesday. Esteemed colleague Brad Berreman wrote earlier today that Denver had intended to sign Charles if he passed his physical on Tuesday.

Charles, 30, is the NFL All-Time leader in yards per carry. His 5.5 yards per carry average only goes to show how effective Charles can be. The former 3rd round pick back in 2008 has rushed for over 7,000 yards in nine NFL seasons.

The incumbent running back depth chart in Denver includes C.J. Anderson, Devontae Booker, Juwan Thompson, and now Charles. At this stage in his career, Charles could provide a change of pace type of runner for Denver. Denver also added DeAngelo Henderson from Coastal Carolina via the sixth round in the recent NFL Draft. After being plagued by injuries the past two seasons, it remains to be seen how much he has left in the tank. Charles has only been able to play in eight games since 2015.
