Wizards forward Markieff Morris is nursing a sore ankle, but will try to give it a go tonight for Game 2 against Boston.

Game 1 of Washington’s second round series against Boston was going great until Markieff Morris went down with an ankle injury in the second quarter. Now, Washington may have to play Game 2 without him too.

The injury occurred after Morris came down awkwardly on the foot of Boston’s Al Horford after making a jump shot. A foul was called, and Morris immediately fell to the floor and appeared to be in quite a bit of pain. He was able to make the ensuing free throw to complete the three-point play, but then made his way to the locker room and did not return.

On Monday afternoon Morris declared that he would play in game 2 no matter what. However, according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, Morris is no longer as confident of his return:

David Aldridge of TNT reported that if Morris can’t play, Oubre will start in his place:

Morris has been a solid contributor for Washington all season, with averages of 14 points and 6.5 rebounds during the regular season. Missing Morris for another game would be a big blow for Washington. His replacement, Kelly Oubre, has been a sporadic contributor this season, and lacks the size and rebounding ability of Morris.

When asked if about the incident, Morris said he plans to ask Horford in person whether it was intentional or not. The play certainly looks suspicious, and there is no love lost between these teams. Game 2 is tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET on TNT.
