1. Jay Bruce

Despite struggling with the Mets after being acquired from the Cincinnati Reds last season, Bruce was the subject of trade rumors virtually all offseason. Holding out for a suitable trade return turned out to be the right move though, as Bruce has started this season nicely (.293/.364/.626 slash-line, nine home runs, 22 RBI and 17 runs scored entering Wednesday) and been a much-needed stable part of the lineup.

Bruce has added some utility at first base early this year, with six starts there. While that’s not necessarily a great boost to his trade value, being able to play somewhere besides the corner outfield spots widens the pool of teams that may have interest in making a deal.

Bruce is in the final year of his contract, which automatically makes him someone the Mets should look to move. Cespedes being out right now probably makes waiting to trade Bruce a better course of action, but if teams come calling Alderson has to re-engage.
