Premier League 2016-17 awards: 5 best attacking midfielders
By Ty Finch
2. Dele Alli, Tottenham
Dele Alli is 21 years old. Twenty. One. What were you doing at that age? I, for one, was still in college, and mostly trying to find out what bar on campus was my favorite. Alli is starting regularly for one of the best teams in the Premier League and scoring goals by the bunches.
Tottenham signed Alli in February of 2015 from Milton Keynes Dons of League One at the age of 19. He was a last-minute signing for the squad, and cost a paltry £5 million. That would prove to be one of the best transfers in the history of the club. While Alli showed immense promise last season, he has put it all together this year, scoring 16 goals and assisting on five in the Premier League. The 16 goals are tops in the league for any midfielder, and he has done this on two and a half shots per game. He’s ruthlessly efficient.
Alli is most known for his goal of the year last season against Crystal Palace.
However, he has added so much to his game in the past year. Linking up from the defense and holding midfield, through balls to the forwards and even adding in headed goals. Remember, he’s only 21. Contributing so much to a title challenger at such a young age in impressive enough; being one of the best attacking midfielders in the entire league just means his potential is sky high. Both Tottenham and England fans have to be thrilled with his progress already, and giddy with excitement over the untapped parts of his game.
