Washington Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal really wanted Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas to get called for an offensive foul on this flop.

It did not matter that the Washington Wizards were crushing the Boston Celtics in Game 3 of the 2017 Eastern Conference Semifinals at the Verizon Center. Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal wanted Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas to get called for an offensive foul on this play.

Thomas didn’t want to create contact in transition. So what Beal did was leave his feet to go completely Superman in an embarrassing attempt at drawing a foul. He tried sell it so badly, but nobody in the Verizon Center believed in Beal’s nonsense.

This flop was the most desperate attempt at a charge you’ll ever see. It wasn’t necessary by any means. The Wizards were thrashing the Celtics hopelessly. It would have taken a 75-point night or something like that for Thomas to carry the Celtics to victory down that badly in the second half. Yet Beal felt it was his calling to draw contact and force an offensive foul.

Given that Beal tends to get hurt all the time, that didn’t seem like a good idea for him to leave his feet in a sad attempt to draw a charge. That type of a dive was more likely to result in an injury than in putting another foul next to Thomas’ name on the stat sheet.

Washington is already a man down in the backcourt for this game. Reserve wing Kelly Oubre Jr. was ejected from the ball game for shoving Celtics forward Kelly Olynyk to the ground after getting roughed up on a tough screen.

Washington has the weakest bench of any team left in the NBA Playoffs. An injury to Beal would almost ensure that Washington would not win a game the rest of the series. What are you doing there, man?
