Fourteen horses will compete for a $1 million purse in Friday’s 2017 Kentucky Oaks from Churchill Downs.
While most of the attention in the horse racing world this weekend will center on the The Run for the Roses, the Kentucky Oaks is a prestigious event in its own right.
The 2017 Kentucky Oaks is set for Friday at 6:12 p.m. Eastern at Churchill Downs as the main undercard to the Derby the following evening. One of the oldest and most anticipated annual events in racing, the Kentucky Oaks is a  1 1/8 mile contest for three-year-old fillies and features a $1 million purse.
Fourteen horses will compete for the iconic Garland of Lillies, with the winner receiving $600,000. The complete field with post positions and jockeys for the 143rd running of the Kentucky Oaks is as follows:
1. Ever So Clever, Louis Contreras
2. Lockdown, Jose OrtizÂ
3. Mopotism, Mario GutierrezÂ
4. Paradise Woods, Flavien Prat
5. Jordan’s Henny, Joe Rocco Jr.Â
6. Vexatious, Kent Desormeaux

Favorite Paradise Woods will start from post number four and looks to be in strong form after dominating the Santa Anita Oaks with a 11 3/4 length victory in early April. Jockey Flavien Prat has also been on a tear, and will ride Kentucky Derby contender Battle of Midway the next evening.

Miss Sky Warrior out of post 10 and Farrell from post seven are the main betting favorites outside of Paradise Woods, as both enter the Kentucky Oaks on lengthy undefeated streaks. Joel Rosario and Salty aren’t far off at 6-1, but will have to come from the outside in post 14 to claim victory.
