Bettors who correctly hit on a Trifecta at the 2017 Kentucky Oaks earned a huge payout thanks to a few surprises.
The Kentucky Oaks is annually one of the most anticipated and prestigious horse racing events of the year, which brings plenty of gambling attention from around the world.
Friday’s race at Churchill Downs pitted 14 of the best three-year-old fillies against each other over the course of 1 1/8 miles with a $1 million purse on the line. The 2017 Kentucky Oaks field opened up after favorite Unique Bella withdrew in March due to a shin injury, leaving bettors with plenty of options.
Santa Anita Oaks champion Paradise Woods entered as favorite at 6/5, with Farrell at 5/1, Miss Sky Warrior at 6/1 and Abel Tasman at 9/1 not far behind. While picking a favorite to win is always tempting, gamblers often go for even bigger prizes with exotic bets, including attempting to hit on a Trifecta.
A Trifecta occurs when a bettor correctly chooses the exact finishing order of the top three horses in a given race. Those who correctly hit on the Trifecta of Abel Tasman-Daddy’s Little Darling-Lockdown at the 2017 Kentucky Oaks on Friday earned a huge payout of $2,863.80.

Paradise Woods and Miss Sky Warrior looked to be the class of the field and battled it out in first place until the stretch run, until Abel Tasman raced paced both after running in last early on. Daddy’s Little Darling finished in second after closing at 12/1 odds, with 37/1 longshot Lockdown claiming third to complete the Trifecta.
Favorite Paradise Woods finished in 11th place due to a late fade, while Farrell ended up in the last position.
