Tottenham drop points in last London derby of season, subsequently drop out of title race.

Spurs have likely seen their title hopes crushed yet again.Tottenham failed to gain any ground on league leaders Chelsea on Friday during its London derby versus West Ham.

The Hammers crushed Spurs’ title dreams with a 1-0 win with Lanzini’s 65′ strike.

West Ham’s win over Spurs marks the second consecutive season that Spurs’ title hopes have been destroyed by a London rival. Following the game, West Ham took to Twitter to let Spurs know it, too.

Spurs can now only sit back and root for Middlesborough or West Brom to upset Chelsea as Tottenham will not play again until after Chelsea completes two more matches.

Chelsea’s magic number to clinch a title is now six.

If the Blues were to win against Boro (H) on Monday night and West Brom (A) on Friday, the title would return to Stamford Bridge for the second time in three seasons.

Last season, Chelsea were the club to shatter Spurs’ Premier League trophy pursuit. Eden Hazard scored a magical goal to give Leicester its first top flight trophy.

In wake of Chelsea’s losses to Crystal Palace and Manchester United in April, the title race was reignited. Spurs turned what was thought to be an insurmountable 10-point gap into a four-point gap in a matter of three weeks. However, despite the gap closing temporarily to one-point, the Blues remained in form and atop the table.

But surging Spurs stayed within reach of the Blues. Until now. As it stands, Chelsea hold a four-point lead with four matches remaining, and a game in hand on Spurs.

All eyes will now turn to Stamford Bridge on Monday for Chelsea’s match versus Middlesborough. It is hard to imagine the Blues slipping up as Antonio Conte’s squad has been brilliant in big matches this season.

However, anything can happen as the Premier League season comes to a close. Regardless of whatever happens in coming weeks, the trophy will be heading to a North London side this summer.
