Twitter reacts to Always Dreaming winning Kentucky Derby
Twitter was full of puns and praise after Always Dreaming won the 143rd annual Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on Saturday.
The winner’s circle at Churchill Downs officially welcomed Always Dreaming on Saturday. The Kentucky Derby favorite proved to live up to the hype and raced to a victory in Louisville behind jockey John Velazquez.
Riding the inside rail, Always Dreaming stayed up front for the majority of the race while competing with the likes of State of Honor and Irish War Cry. While those horses ultimately fell off, Velazquez had his finger on the pulse of his horse and it pulled away down the final stretch to bring home the win.
After the race, Twitter was full of puns and had plenty of praise for the latest winner of the Kentucky Derby. Needless to say, the word dream was quite popular among them.

Just about every newspaper headline will have the word “dream” in it tomorrow via some clever pun. Nonetheless, it was a pretty remarkable race for the latest winner. Despite being the favorite, this was a race where it was seen as anyone can win.

Therefore, the incredible performance by the favorite and Velazquez to go out and run their race showed why Always Dreaming was the favorite to begin with. Clearly, a lot of people on Twitter thought it was the favorite as well and won some money on it.
Now, Velazquez will attempt to guide the champion to a victory in the Preakness. If it wins that, then the buzz on social media will only continue to build.
