Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Torrey Smith paid the adoption fees for 46 shelter animals in Baltimore.

Torrey Smith has a strong tie to the city of Baltimore. It goes far beyond his on the field contributions in helping the Baltimore Ravens win Super Bowl 47. The organization and city gave him support during his times of need. Baltimore saw Smith grow from a boy into a man. Now he’s finding ways to give back to the same community who embraced him. At a Baltimore Area Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) charity event called “Pawject Runway”, Smith announced he’s paying for the fees of 46 shelter animals.

He and his wife also made a separate donation. Smith has a very generous heart and is one of the most genuinely kind players in the NFL. Even after his departure from the Ravens after the 2014 season, he’s remained very involved in Baltimore, especially during the offseason. Smith hosts an annual charity basketball tournament in the city.

In today’s society, good news like this rarely gets reported. But Smith clearly didn’t do this for the attention, he did it out of love. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Ravens after they drafted him in 2011. Back in 2012, Smith lost his brother in a motorcycle accident. The next game, he had arguably the best game of his career on primetime television against the New England Patriots.

Charity is an important part of Smith’s life. Baltimore gave a lot to him, including a shoulder to cry on back in 2012. Now he’s finding new ways to repay the city for everything. Smith signed with the Eagles this offseason after being cut by the San Francisco 49ers. He has over 4,000 receiving yards in his career, including over 3500 with the Ravens.
